Real-Time Insights into Retail Investor Behavior

Download the August 2026 Report: Retail Rotates Into Hedges as Rates Bite.
Interest rates reasserted themselves in August, sending the 10-year Treasury yield to its highest level in more than a year. Retail investors didn’t wait to see how it would shake out. They rotated straight into hedges, and pulled back hard from the leverage trade that defined the summer.
- Rates Reassert, Clients Rotate: The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield closed near 4.77%(Bloomberg as of August 31, 2026), its highest level in more than a year, and Apex clients responded by rotating into gold, bitcoin proxy Strategy (MSTR), and short-duration Treasuries (SGOV).
- Leverage Cools, Fast: Net buying in the leveraged semiconductor ETF (SOXL) fell nearly 90% month over month, dropping from July’s largest net-bought position on the platform to seventh.
- A Bitcoin Proxy Breaks Into the Top 25: Strategy (MSTR) entered the Top 25 holdings by market value for the first time across three of four generational cohorts — Gen Z, Millennials, and Gen X.
- Boomers Play Defense: Rather than joining the MSTR trade, Boomers added Pfizer (PFE), leaning into a defensive name instead of the inflation hedge favored by younger generations.
- SpaceX Keeps Climbing: SpaceX (SPCX) rose two spots to twelfth by market value across all four generational cohorts, holding a top-eight position by account count in every one.
The Full Report Includes: Top 10 net buys and sells, a deep dive on the rotation to hedges, the leverage pullback in detail, Top 25 holdings by generation, and what Apex is watching heading into September.
