Apex Releases August 2026 Investor Pulse: Retail Rotates Into Hedges as Rates Climb

Sep 8, 2026 - Last Updated: Sep 8, 2026
New research shows retail investors on the Apex platform pulled back sharply from leverage and rotated into gold, bitcoin proxy Strategy, and short-duration Treasuries as the 10-year yield hit its highest level in more than a year
September [X], 2026 – Apex Fintech Solutions Inc. today released its August 2026 Investor Pulse report, revealing that retail investors responded to a sharp rise in interest rates not by stepping back from the market, but by rotating into hedges, while sharply pulling back from the leveraged trades that defined the summer.
Drawing from millions of accounts across hundreds of clients, the report tracks Top 25 holdings by generation alongside behavioral patterns that define each market period.
August 2026 Highlights
Rates Reassert Themselves: The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield closed August near 4.77% (Bloomberg as of August 31, 2026), its highest level in more than a year, as sticky-inflation concerns and hawkish Fed rhetoric lifted yields across the curve. By month-end, Fed funds futures implied roughly a 65% probability of a rate hike at the September 16th FOMC meeting.
Clients Rotated Into Hedges: Apex clients were net buyers of gold (GLD, +$94.4M), bitcoin proxy Strategy (MSTR, +$57.3M), and short-duration Treasuries (SGOV, +$133.7M), while trimming mega-cap technology leaders and broad market index funds.*
Leverage Pulls Back Sharply: Net buying in the leveraged semiconductor ETF (SOXL), July’s single largest net-bought position at roughly $817 million, fell nearly 90% month over month to about $85 million, dropping it from the top of the buy list to seventh.*
A Bitcoin Proxy Enters the Top 25: Strategy (MSTR) entered the Top 25 holdings by market value for the first time across three of four generational cohorts, Gen Z, Millennials, and Gen X, an unusual debut for a bitcoin proxy.
Cross-Generational Patterns: Core holdings, Nvidia, Apple, Amazon, Tesla, and Alphabet, stayed atop every generation’s portfolio, with distinct identities emerging below the leaders:
- Gen Z, Millennials, and Gen X: Added Strategy (MSTR) to the Top 25 for the first time, with Gen Z also picking up growth names CrowdStrike (CRWD) and Lumentum (LITE).
- Boomers: Leaned defensive, adding Pfizer (PFE) instead of the inflation-hedge trade favored by younger cohorts.
“Rates went up, and our clients didn’t flinch, they adjusted,” said Bill Capuzzi, CEO of Apex Fintech Solutions. “They bought gold, they bought Treasuries, and they backed off the leverage that defined the last two months. That’s not fear. That’s discipline.”
What We’ll Be Watching in September
One thread carries into next month: how markets react to Anthropic’s anticipated public S-1 filing. The company confidentially filed a draft registration statement in June; the public version would offer the first audited look at a frontier AI lab’s economics and path to profitability, a potential bellwether given how debt-financed the AI build-out has become.
